A while back The Guardian launched a new crowd sourced news platform called the ‘GuardianWitness’ which basically forms the mechanic to create Citizen Journalists, via a new smartphone app. The App allows wanna-be-journalists or every day people to submit interesting stories, or in times of need, The Guardian will issue ‘Assignments’ to gather additional photos and video content for bigger stories that are happening in real time…
I have to say that this is brilliant. The Guardian are effectively getting the scope on potential stories, without having to pay the journalists. It gets people to involved in a far more unique way then techniques have been used before. Very cool idea and I am sure the benifits for the Guardian will be massive.
