A Letter to My Father

Dear Dad

Thank you for always being there for me. For being there while I grew up, for seeing all the important parts even though you were working so hard to make the life I have had possible. Thank you for being at every sport game I played. And if you couldn't make it, for being so disappointed that you weren't there. Thank you for making me play sport and giving me one of life's greatest joys. Thank you for making me know it wasn't important that I succeeded but that I tried my very best. Thank you for laughing at me when I was bowled out for a duck and making me see that it's just a game.

Thank you for making me love my brother and realise that he is my closest friend and ally. Thank you for pushing us to put aside our differences and realise that it is our differences that makes us such a good team. Thank you for not sparing the rod. It really is true what they say "spare the rod spoil the child" and I am thankful that we turned out the way we did and not like so many other people I see.

Thank you for waking up at those early hours to make sure I made it to my lift to school even though I hated going to that woman's house. Thank you for making me switch schools in grade 10 even though I was so angry at you, it was one of the best things to happen to me. Thank you for working so hard and sacrificing so much of your happiness so that I could go to the best university possible and get the education that would lead me to where I am today. Thank you for telling mom that I didn't need to get a job during university. And telling me that they would be the greatest years of my life, you were not wrong.

Thank you for being their for me when I had my heart broken, even if its not your strong point. Thank you for the frank advice and not sugar coating anything. Life is hard, you have to deal with it. Thank you for encouraging me to take this adventure and giving me the support I needed.

Thank you for getting me into sport, I cannot imagine a life without cheering on your team. But more importantly thank you for supporting Arsenal. Being an Arsenal fan is true blessing and I thank you for that everyday, especially when I see Chelsea and Man City Fans.

Thank you for being so passionate about so many things, Sport, Arsenal Music, but most of all your family. Your love for your family is something I really look up to and want with my future family.

Thank you for loving my mother. So many people I know come from unhappy homes. But you two do show me that true love does work. Loving my mother is the greatest gift you have given me and my brother.

Thank you for being yourself. For keeping your own type of style no matter how out of style it was. By doing so you taught me to be myself and not care what other people think of me. Now that I have reached that part of my life where I now realise how cool my parents are. I see you are the original hipster. The orginal beach bum.

But most of all I thank you for making me the man I am today. I love you and am so thankful that I get to call you my dad my hero.
