A Letter to My Mother

Dear Mom

Thank you for being there throughout my life. For being like a stay at home mom even though you worked everyday. Thank you for being a teacher so I could always have the get out of jail card if I was naughty. And thank you for being my grade 2 teacher and teaching me there is no such thing. Thank you for always being smarter than me. You were always there to help me with my homework no matter what it was. Thank you for moving schools and forcing me to change schools with you. Even though I fought you and dad all the way it was one of the best things to happen to me.

Thank you for being an amazing cook. To this day friends try and weasel their way into dinner invites. Your lamb shank is worthy of an award.

Thank you for helping me with my course reading in university and even making summaries for me. You are the reason I passed politics in 3rd year. Thank you for always believing in me and showing me that I am capable of doing anything. When I doubt myself you are there to get me back on track.

Thank you for raising me right. For teaching me to be a gentleman and teaching me that chivalry is never dead. Thank you for always listening to me even though you never got any therapist fees. I must have driven you mad at some point with my constant moaning, but you always and still do give me the best advice. Through all the heartbreak in my life you were the rational voice that guided me.

Thank you for pushing me to take this adventure and encouraging me to experience life to the fullest. I am a better man for all of this and I can't wait to come back home to you. Thank you for always worrying about me when I am sick and messaging me all the time just to check in.

Thank you for taking me to church. I may have seemed like I would have preferred to be playing at home. But it instilled values in me that I think about everyday. I am so glad I have a spiritual belief in my life.

Thank you for being the perfect mother. There are so many people who say that they have the best mother. But I believe from the bottom of my heart that God blessed me with the best mother to ever exist. There are friends of mine who refer to you as a saint and they are not wrong.
Thank you for teaching me how important family is and being so passionate about ours.

Thank you for loving my father. You really are the perfect wife to that father of mine and I do always smile when I see you two together. You have really set the bar high for me and I hope I can find what you have.

Most of all I thank you for always being there for me. For being my friend and making me the man I am today. I love you mom there is no one else like you in the world. I am so lucky to have you as a mother.
